1. How do we see God accomplishing his will for his mission in this passage? (cf., 2 Sam 15:31-37 + 17:14)

2. What does this teach us about the need to take good and godly and not just good and pragmatic counsel?

3. In what ways are you seeing yourself seek out the counsel of those who will affirm your desires rather than seeking out the counsel of God? Consider Absalom and his decision-making. What words might describe your own seeking the counsel of God? 

4. How are you tempted to take good and pragmatic counsel towards sinful purposes? What does that look like?

5. Read Romans 8:31-37. The resurrected Christ intercedes for you at the right hand of God and God answers his prayers. How might knowing and believing that Jesus loves you like that transform the ways you pray and make choices this week?
