WHY PUBLIC WORSHIP
PREFACE: THIS KIND OF CONVERSATION DOES NOT WORK IF IT IS ROOTED IN LEGALISM: "HERE'S WHAT YOU DO IF YOU WANT TO BE A GOOD PERSON SO DO IT." IT HAS TO BE ROOTED IN GOSPEL: "HERE IS WHO GOD IS AND WHAT HE HAS DONE AND HOW WE CAN LIVE IN HAPPY AND HOLY RESPONSE TO THAT."
1: One reason we gather for public worship is because God calls us to. We traced (so briefly!) a Biblical theology of why we gather to worship on Sundays each week. What elements of that were most helpful to you?
2: A 2nd reason is because of Who God Is. What is it about God that makes giving ourselves to the public "worth-ship" of Him right?
3: A 3rd reason is because we need it. How is it that our time in public worship each week helps us to not let go of our gospel faith/confession?
4: A 4th reason is because others needs us there. In what ways does our presence in public worship help others?
5: Would you describe your presence in public worship more as "not happening" "blue moon" "if everything else lines up" or "built my life around this rhythm?" How have you been thinking through this?
