Build Your Life
On The Gospel
TEXT
Matthew 5:17-20 & Matthew 17:24-29
Matt 5:17-20
Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Matt 7:24-29
Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.

And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, for he was teaching them as one who had authority and not as their scribes.
1. Why is it important that Jesus came to fulfill the law and the prophets?
2. What choices does Jesus put in front of us all? How does this point to our deepest need as humans?
3. Are there ways in which you view yourself differently from how Jesus does?
4. How are you tempted to build your life on a foundation other than Jesus and his overflowing righteousness?
5. How is it good news that Jesus came to fulfill the law and prophets? If you believed that, what changes in your life this week?
6. Spend time praying for one another to believe in Jesus, in the grace of God’s gift of overflowing righteousness, and the courage to live trusting Jesus and pursuing obedience to his words
